We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!

Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.

Wavebird Cosplay (Tori) is a 26 year old D.C. native with a flair for the creative.

She grew up doing musical theater from an incredibly young age which sparked a

massive love for costuming and portraying a wide range of characters. Tori is

one of six kids in her family, the closest in age is her younger sister, Deanna,

with whom she sings in a duo band called The Sunspots.

As a half-Latina woman, Tori loves to go dancing out on the town, and she

especially enjoys some nice, spicy cuisine. She naps with her four fat kitties

during the day and at night you can usually find her dodging sleep by indulging

in some retro video games. Her current life goal is to meet Sir Patrick Stewart

(for a second time) to see if he remembers carrying her on his hip at the ripe age of six.

this month where she’ll be debuting a brand new cosplay from her

favorite Nintendo series, Metroid!

We went back to Kure Beach, NC to shoot Tori with the aesthetic of

“Black Widow stranded on Vorimir a.k.a. The Soul Stone” just vacationing

after a long life of being… well, Black Widow. You can catch all the

“Vorimir” edits all month long on our social media.

Tori was last seen as a Cosplay Spotlight in February 2017 with her full

Samus Aran armor but back then she was known as Carpe Diem Cosplay.

We thought her doing a (much) scaled-down version of Samus and Natasha

was a great nod to her past Spotlight as well as one of her staple cosplays, Black Widow!
