We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.
"Hi! My name is Cherry, and I am a plus-size Asian American and LGBT+ cosplayer from
Maryland now based out of North Carolina. I have been cosplaying since 2008, and fully
focusing on creating content since 2018. I create various video game and pop-culture
cosplays with my focus on sewing and hand-crafting pieces for these builds. My work
has been featured in various publications, such as Cosplay Realm Magazine and
Voyage Raleigh Magazine, as well as guest appearances at
conventions all along the east coast.
Over the years I have expanded my hobby from at-home projects and simply attending
conventions by working local charity events, fundraisers, panels and speeches at various
events. As a LGBT+, plus-size Asian-American, I have covered various topics about
diversity and inclusion in the cosplay community over the years. I’ve offered
countless advice and tutorials on cosplay building, as well as provide resources
where I can to assist others in specific costume builds.
Cosplay has allowed me to express myself in the most sincere ways, and has opened
up my life to meeting some of the best people I could have ever met. Cosplay has also
allowed me some rare and incredible opportunities that I never would have expected
out of a hobby. My goal with my hobby is to continue bringing to life the characters
I love the most and expand my knowledge of crafting and creating. I plan to continue
challenging myself with every new build, and learning new methods of crafting
and creating to better my skill set.
This month we’re bringing you Variant newcomer, Cherry Cos who we met on a
photo shoot and decided we loved her personality, positivity and aesthetic!
She also went completely out of her way to not only help us with the other shoot,
but also included us in a magazine interview she was doing and then recommended
us to the same magazine for our own interview!
